Don't Judge the Drink by its Container!

Which is more important to you, a drink's taste or its container? Believe it or not, there are people who judge a drink by its container. Drinking coffee from a flimsy styropor cup, for instance, is a no-no for people who like hard, sturdy cups.

Researchers Ardnna Krishna (University of Michigan) and Maureen Morrin (Rutgers University) found out that people may be classified into strong autoletics and low autoletics, depending on their sensitivity to touching things. Strong autoletics like to touch things a lot before they buy them; low autoletics have much less interest in touching objects.

Participants in their sturdy were blindfolded and given sturdy and flimsy cups to handle. Suprisingly, the strong autoletics did not really let the type of cup influence their taste evaluations. Rather, the low autoletics were the ones who gave low taste evaluations for the beverage in the flimsy cups. The low autoletics were also the ones who were willing to pay more for the beverage in a firmer container, even without seeing or touching the container beforehand.

Learn to Study the Bible

Learning through Bible is powerful and fulfilling, so that studying Bible is a very good habit. Studying Bible is being made easy to people by resources or materials provided for us, such as this book entitled Learn to Study the Bible (40 Bible Study Methods) by Andy Deane, which contain the step-by-step methods to help us discover, apply and enjoy God’s words. As I’ve read the sample chapter of the book, I initially figured how clear the author enumerate and explain each steps to let readers easily adopt it, and I found it great. One of the steps I really agreed was this; “carry your favorite verse with you”. Why? It is because, “that” verse can be our life’s guide in our everyday interactions. Having a favorite verse also, will show that you hold a key or something precious within this blessed earth we lived in. Life is full of questions, and answers are provided but people must have courage to seek for it – for the Bible is where the answer hides.

Taylor Swift

One of my favorite singer is Taylor Swift. She was very good and I always like to listen to her songs. My favorites from her songs were "Our Song" and "I'd Lie". Her songs and styles were very fitting to my moods and also to many teenagers. At the of 19 she possessed a nice talent in music that catch many people's interest...including me. She play guitar and piano and it is nice to know that she was a songwriter too. Absolutely, I'm a fan of her!

Why does a cat rub its head against your leg?

A cat has special scent glands found in different parts of its body. These include the cat's chin and around the eyes. When the cat rubs its head on you, it rubs off its scent on you. This is its way of marking you to claim you as "his". This is the cat's way of showing its deep affection for you. That's also why you will notice that when the cat does this, it seems to be in a loving and contended mood.

Foreign Borrowings in American English

“I can’t decide whether to have chowder, chile con carne, or chop suey for lunch,” said Mark.

“I had pizza yesterday,” remarked Tom, “so I think I’ll eat hamburger today.”

“There’s one thing on the menu I’m sure I don’t want, and that’s squash!” Mark exclaimed.

“A couple of those chocolate cookies,” said Tom, “will be fine for dessert.”

Only part of the words in their conversation had their beginnings in England itself. Many of the words that the boys used were borrowed from other languages. The words whether, have, think, yesterday, eat and today are some of the real English words in Mark and Tom’s conversation.

When Mark used the word decide, he was borrowing from Latin, where the word meant “to cut down.” To decide on something, one “cuts off useless thinking.”

From Brittany, on the north coast of France, comes the term chowder. The fishermen there used a big pot in which to cook fish and biscuits. Each fishermen tossed part of his catch into the pot. The name of the pot was soon given to the food cooked in it, so from the term of the cooking pot we have the word chowder.

Another word from the French is dessert. Their word for this pert of the meal meant “clear away.” Dessert is something that is served after the dirty dishes have been “cleared away.”

The word menu also comes from the French. Menu is French means “a small part.” The meaning probably refers to the fact that the separate details of the meal are listed.

Chile con carne comes from the Spanish language. So does the word chocolate, which was taken from a Mexican Indian word for the cacao tree. Their word for chocolate meant “bitter-water.” If you have eaten unsweetened chocolate, you will agree that the term is a descriptive one.

From Italy, in the southern part of Europe, we get pizza. The term chop suey is from Chinese. Their word for this dish means “odds and ends”. Do you know the ingredients of chop suey? Find a recipe and see how many things go into the making of this dish.

Hamburgers seem to be truly American food, yet they are named for the city of Hamburg in Germany. The word hamburger has no connection with ham.

Our forefathers shortened the Algonquin Indian word, askutasquash, to plain squash.

In speaking of cookies for dessert, Tom used a word from the Dutch. Their word koekje meant “little cake.”

These are only some of many foreign borrowings as people spoke English.

Check this out pals! Interesting facts about tea...

* Tea is the second most consumed beverage in the world, playing second fiddle only to water. It is in almost every culture, and there are literally thousands of varieties.

* Tea is often said to be traced back to a Chinese Emperor, Shen Nung who live over 4700 years ago. Although this is likely not true, the earliest record that confirms the cultivation of tea is dated to the 4th century China. Drinking tea leaves steeped in a tea pot did not become popular until the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and modern tea drinking is about the same age.

* Tea contains about 50% less caffeine than coffee, making it a great alternative to those that are sensitive to caffeine intake. Tea can also be made to be decaffeinated as most of the caffeine is released in the first few minutes of the steep.

* Until the nineteenth century, solid blocks of tea were used as money in Siberia. Who would believe that tea blocks were used as currency!

* White Tea has a higher anti-oxidant level than green tea, making it superior in it's ability to boost the immune system and heal the body.

* There are four main types of tea which are, white, green, oolong, and black, all which are born from the same species of plant.

* Camellia sinensis is the scientific classification for the tea plant.

* China is the birthplace of tea and gives to us some of the finest varieties of white and green teas. Although China is the origin of tea, surprisingly, it is not the world's largest overall producer of tea.

* Tea is a natural source of fluoride that can help protect against tooth decay and gum disease.

* An average of three billion cups of tea are consumed daily worldwide.

Tastes good, tastes interesting... While tea is traditionally people's favorite, it is nice to know more about it! :)

Are you a Coffee Drinker?

I love coffee so much everyday it is included in my breakfast. I know drinking coffee have good and bad health effects so that I am interested knowing more about it. Here's what I read from Reader's Digest.

Evidence suggests that coffee drinkers have a lower risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, gallstones, Parkinson's disease, cirrhosis and certain types of cancers. Hundreds of compounds, including antioxidants, seem to be responsible for coffee's many protective benefits. A Harvard study revealed coffee drinkers had a lower risk of dying of cardiovascular causes than nondrinkers. A Norwegian study found that a typical serving of brewed coffee is richer in antioxidants than a serving of blueberries, raspberries, or many fruit juices. Coffee might help the mind as much as the body. One study found that sleep-deprived rats were much calmer simply after inhaling the scent of roasted coffee beans. Still, many dietitians recommend drinking in moderation – only one or two cups of coffee a day and without the added whole milk and sugar (which jolt only the waistline). If you drink much more than that, the caffeine can dehydrate you or raise your blood pressure. Pregnant women should limit their intake as well, since coffee can boost the risk of miscarriage.

It is better to know and be aware of your health, start with the basic.

Palawan, when will I visit you?

Palawan is a Philippine island, and is rated by National Geographic Traveler magazine as the best island destination in East and Southeast Asia region in 2007, and the 13th best island in the world having “incredibly beautiful natural seascapes and landscapes”. Regarding this, I want to visit its “underground river”. This is the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park. It features limestone karst mountain landscape with an 8.2km. navigable underground river. A distinguishing feature of the river is that it winds through a cave before flowing directly into the South China Sea. It also includes major formations of stalactites and stalagmites, and several large chambers. I want to experience sailing on it with a both with my family or friends and see the natural beauty of Palawan.
